For many of our guests, a stay at The Tigers Nest Camp is a well earned chance to sleep in, enjoy a long lazy breakfast on the patio with the papers, perhaps a couple of hours in the forest for short hike with a good book before heading back for an afternoon snooze and contemplating another candle lit dinner in the courtyard or on your tent patio.
For others, it is a base from which to get busy exploring the spectacular Tigers Nest Monastry “Taksang” with its pristine forest and exploring the majestic Paro valley.
Guests can as well experience Horse Riding and Village Hot stone Bath in the camp on an additional cost.

Day Hike To Tigers Nest Monastery
After early morning breakfast, start your hike up to Taktsang Monastery, also known as ‘Tiger’s Nest’ situated 900 meters above the Paro valley floor 20 minutes’ drive from the camp. Hanging precariously and magically from a rather steep cliff, the Taktshang monastery is a monument of genuine pride for the Bhutanese nation. It defies architectural principles to the core and amazes tourists from around the world. It is a sight to behold. Taktsang or the Tigers lair as the monastery is called, it is widely regarded is one of the most important monuments of spiritual significance in Bhutan. Its history is deeply associated with the visit of Guru Padmasambhava, the revered Indian saint who came to Bhutan in the 8th century AD.
The cave was named Taktsang after Guru Rinpoche flew into the cave from Kurtoe Singye Dzong in eastern Bhutan while riding on a tigress. When he landed in the cave, he took the wrathful form of Guru Dorji Drolo who is regarded as one of the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche to decimate the demons. Several saints have chosen this sanctuary to pray and meditate in solitude. The monastery was built in 1692 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgaye who is said to be one of the reincarnations of Guru Rinpoche.
The Monastery consists of four main temples along with their residences that are constructed along the rock ledge. There 8 caves in total out of which 4 are relatively easy to access. The monastery was ravaged by fire twice in the 1900s first in 1951 and later the fire of 1998, which nearly destroyed the monastery completely. The government then undertook a comprehensive reconstruction in 200 with funding from foreign donors.

Hot Stone Bath
Hot stone bath is one of the very great experiences Bhutan has to offer. The bathtub, made of wood is constructed on a ground level, outside of the home. Traditionally these bath are done near a river bed with plenty supplies of stones and water. And it would be an all-day event with people taking turns to soak into the water. Many families would consult an astrologer to select an auspicious bathing day so as to give the bath its maximum healing power.
It is believed that the heat of the water, the minerals released from the rock, and the local herbs all combine to produce medicinal benefits for joint pains, hypertension, stomach disorders and arthritis.
The process starts with heating round large river stones on a big fire which is then left to heat for hours. Once the stones are glowing red, they are gradually dropped into a wooden tub filled with water and scattered with Artemisia leaves. The roasted rocks slowly heat the water, thus releasing minerals into the water. The section with hot stones is separated by a wooden bar so there is no danger of getting burnt by stones. And water gradually added depending on one’s preference of temperature.
